CHAMAEMELUM NOBILE

$39.99

Easy to grow with outstanding texture, this herb can multi-task in the landscape while providing great scent and a boatload of herbal uses in the home. Tolerating full sun or partial shade, this Chamomile is a low, creeping, yet aggressive growing plant with fine, almost frilly, fragrant foliage. It can create a thick stand and often has been used outside the herb garden as a lawn substitute, but you will find it an easy going, easy growing plant that works well in any herb or container garden. The fine textured foliage serves as a great backdrop for small daisy-like flowers with white rays and yellow center that bloom from early summer through frost. Flowers can be dried and used in soothing, great tasting teas that have a long, detailed history of use as treatment for a wide variety of ailments. Its apple scented foliage can be used in sweet smelling potpourris with ease. Perennial.

Growth Tips Tolerates full sun or part shade. Cultivation and Propagation: Roman chamomile is a low-growing, mat-forming, trailing evergreen perennial with hairy stems that branch freely. Thread-like leaves form tufts and give the plant a feathery appearance. The root is jointed and fibrous. Yellow blooms appear in early summer: one small, daisy-like flower on a long stalk, which droops when in bud. Wild chamomile has a single flower and will grow in any type soil. The flowers of the cultivated variety are double and are considered more desirable for healing purposes. Cultivated chamomile likes heavy, moist, dark loam with a pH of 7.0 in full sun to partial shade. It is hardy to zone 3. The fruit is small and dry, and as it forms, the center becomes more and more conical as the petals droop. Roman Chamomile can be grown from seed, but the seed is fine and can drop into oblivion, unless the bed is well-prepared. Because seed often yields single flowers, acquire plants from a reputable nursery. To increase your supply, propagate the offshoots that the mother plant produces, setting them in well-manured soil. Pest-free
Hardiness Zone 5-8

Understanding Plant Pot Sizes

When you’re choosing plants, you’ll often see sizes listed as #1, #2, or #3 containers. These numbers refer to the volume of the pot, not the age of the plant.

#1 Pot – Holds about 1 gallon of soil. These are small starter plants, great for tight spaces or filling in around larger features.

#2 Pot – Holds about 2 gallons of soil. A medium size that balances affordability with faster establishment in the landscape.

#3 Pot – Holds about 3 gallons of soil. These larger plants give more immediate impact and tend to establish quickly.

Bigger pots generally mean more mature root systems, but the right choice depends on your project goals, timeline, and budget.
