Due to the nature of the business, the number of days/hours will not be guaranteed. Instead, the # of days/hours the Garden Assistant works will depend on the needs of the garden center throughout the season & how flexible the applicant can be with scheduling. An applicant may be scheduled for regular PT all season if the need exists and he/she is flexible, otherwise, hours could drop considerably by mid-season to needing an assistant at all.
Typically, waterers are needed every day in 4 hr. increments starting mid-morning to early afternoon. Positions would be created based on the number of hours the applicant wanted, which days, but all positions will need to include every other weekend. Hours could be somewhat flexible if they are consistent. Weather permitting, the estimated average of hours per week is 18-25.
The season typically runs from April 15th – September 30th (students start/end times will vary) and therefore, so will this position of employment. Although we encourage employees to return to the positions previously hired for, there is no employment guarantee of re-hire or re-hire to the same position and pay. The employee will be notified during the month of March of the new year if the previous position held is still available.
